Chinese Consul General Applauds Grace Schools' Global Vision, Celebrates 16 Years of Mandarin Excellence

Grace Schools has once again reinforced its position as one of Nigeria's leading institutions in global education, earning high praise from the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, for its unwavering commitment to educational innovation and cultural diplomacy.

During her first official visit to the Gbagada campus on Friday, the Consul General commended the school's pioneering efforts in strengthening educational and cultural ties between Nigeria and China, describing Grace Schools as a shining example of how education can bridge nations and prepare young people for an increasingly interconnected world.

The visit highlighted what has become one of Grace Schools' defining achievements—its visionary decision, over 16 years ago, to introduce Mandarin into its curriculum through a partnership with the Confucius Institute. At a time when global education was still evolving, Grace Schools embraced international learning, equipping its students with the linguistic, cultural and intellectual skills needed to thrive on the world stage.

Impressed by the school's achievements, Ms. Yan Yuqing pledged to deepen collaboration between China and Grace Schools, noting that more exchanges and partnerships would follow. She reaffirmed China's commitment to advancing educational, technological and cultural cooperation with Nigeria, particularly in areas such as agricultural modernisation, industrial development and knowledge exchange.

Describing Nigeria and China as partners bound by friendship and shared aspirations, the Consul General also brought warmth to the occasion by revealing that she has adopted three Nigerian names, including Ayo, and has developed a fondness for Nigerian cuisine, especially jollof rice and moin-moin.

Welcoming the distinguished guest, the Chief Executive Officer of Grace Schools, Mrs. Olatokunbo Edun, described the visit as a significant milestone in the school's journey of raising globally minded learners.

She said the Consul General's presence reflected the enduring friendship between Nigeria and China and underscored the importance of education as a vehicle for international understanding.

"Your visit is a great source of encouragement to our learners and a powerful reminder that languages have the ability to build bridges, foster lasting friendships and create opportunities across nations," she said.

One of the defining moments of the visit was the impressive cultural showcase by Grace Schools students, whose confidence, discipline and exceptional talent captivated guests throughout the event. Demonstrating not only their proficiency in Mandarin but also their appreciation of Chinese culture, the students delivered captivating performances, including Chinese songs, cultural presentations, the elegant Umbrella Dance and Kung Fu demonstrations.

The celebration was further enriched by the vibrant rhythms of the Badagry Sato Drummers, creating a colourful fusion of Nigerian and Chinese cultural heritage that perfectly reflected the spirit of international friendship and mutual respect.

Beyond the colourful performances, the event showcased the values that define a Grace Schools education—academic excellence, discipline, leadership, creativity and cultural intelligence. The poise, confidence and character displayed by the students were a testament to the school's holistic approach to education, where academic achievement is complemented by strong moral values and global awareness.

For over six decades, Grace Schools has remained at the forefront of educational excellence, continually embracing innovation while nurturing learners who are equipped to succeed anywhere in the world. Its sustained investment in international education, technology-driven learning, and character development continues to set it apart as a forward-looking institution committed to raising the next generation of global leaders.

The visit by the Chinese Consul General not only celebrated an enduring partnership but also reaffirmed Grace Schools' place as a trailblazer in international education—an institution where innovation meets excellence, cultures connect, and future leaders are inspired to make a meaningful impact on the world.
